What is a Facelift?

As we age, our facial skin loses elasticity and collagen, causing lines, wrinkles, and sagging. A facelift procedure is done to help rejuvenate the appearance of an aging face. This procedure can help to turn back the hands of time for a refreshed appearance.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Individuals who are experiencing signs of aging in the face such as jowls, loose skin on the neck, deepening of folds around the mouth, or sagging facial skin can often benefit from this procedure. Healthy, nonsmokers with a positive outlook on the procedure are often good candidates. A consultation with Dr. Narasimhan can help to determine if this procedure is right for you.

The Procedure

During the facelift procedure, an incision will be made in the hairline at the temples, and wrap around the ear, ending in the lower scalp. Fat will be redistributed, and underlying tissues repositioned. Deep layers of the face and muscles may also be lifted. The skin will then be redraped, and incisions closed.

Results

Following a facelift, bruising and swelling may occur, but should be mild and temporary. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Patients should expect to take 2-3 weeks to recover, and postpone any social events at least six weeks after surgery.  A mini facelift is also an option for those that do not need the full results of a complete facelift.
