Gynecomastia can often be a cause for embarrassment or self-consciousness in males. You may avoid removing your shirt at the beach, or feel discomfort when exercising due to excess breast tissue. Luckily,  Breast Reduction surgery can easily be done to help correct this condition, boosting the self-confidence of those who suffer from it.

What is Breast Reduction?

Breast Reduction is done for males who suffer from gynecomastia, a condition in which excess breast tissue is present in male breasts. Certain Cancer drugs and performance enhancing steroids can also cause gynecomastia in men. Reduction approaches include liposuction and a combination of liposuction and excision techniques.

How is Breast Reduction done?

If liposuction is used to reduce the breasts, incisions will be placed inconspicuously along the breast fold, and liposuction will be done to eliminate any excess fatty breast tissue. If an excision technique is used, an incision will be made around the areola, and Concord Plastic Surgeon Dr. Narasimhan will remove excess breast tissues. These techniques can also be combined.

Who is a good candidate for Breast Reduction?

Good candidates for Breast Reduction are males who suffer from gynecomastia and are unhappy with the shape and size of their breasts. Ideal candidates will be healthy, non-smokers with realistic expectations for their surgery outcome. A consultation with Dr. Narasimhan will help to determine what step needs to be taken to achieve your  Breast Reduction goals.

What should I expect during recovery from Breast Reduction?

Recovery time from Breast reduction takes about two the three weeks. A compression garment will need to be worn to prevent swelling and to ensure the breasts heal correctly. Bruising may last for up to three weeks.  Pain medication can be prescribed to help with any discomfort you may experience.
