What is Botox®?

Botox® is an injectable treatment made up of onabotulinumtoxinA. Similar to Dysport®, Botox® is used to temporarily soften lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet. While its primary use is cosmetic, Botox® can also be used to treat excessive sweating and chronic migraines.

How Does Botox® Work?

When expressions are made, muscles contract, often causing lines and wrinkles to form.  Botox® works by blocking nerve signals from reaching the muscles that contract during facial movement. Treatments are quick, usually lasting about 15 minutes, and can be done in-office.

Prior to your Botox® treatment, Dr. Narasimhan will explain the procedure process, as well as create an individualized plan to meet your aesthetic goals.

Who is a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Individuals who have deep lines around their forehead that make them look tired, aged, or upset can often benefit from Botox® injections. Also, if you are prone to developing facial lines to due to genetics, it may be recommended that you consider Botox® as a preventative measure. A consultation with Concord plastic surgeon Dr. Narasimhan can help to best determine if this treatment option is right for you.

Botox® Recovery

Following your Botox® procedure, some improvements may be able to be seen within 24 hours. However, full results can often be seen within four weeks. Botox® lasts between three and four months before a touch-up session is needed to maintain results. While there is no downtime required with Botox®, physical activity should be postponed for the remained of the day. Swelling, redness and bruising may occur, though this is often mild and will resolve quickly.
